The McCloskey Group and Point Carbon present

Carbon & Energy in Asia 2007

2-3 October 2007, Shangri-la Hotel, Singapore

We all now realise that carbon is one of the single most far-reaching issues facing international businesses. In an increasingly carbon constrained world, managing carbon positions attracts great risks and opportunities. However, how these risks are mitigated, and their opportunities unlocked, is not always clear, especially in a market as diverse as Asia.

For this reason, Point Carbon, the world’s leading authority on Carbon, and The McCloskey Group, the front runners in coal industry reporting and analysis, have joined forces to dedicate a two-day conference in Singapore to explore how Asian businesses - whether major carbon emitters or not - adapt to the risks and seize the opportunities that will confront them.

These are exciting times for the energy industries and large scale business in Asia and those companies that understand the challenge first stand the best chance of capitalising the most.

To make sure your business is best placed to meet the increased demand in carbon trading, knowledge and financing, we invite you to join us in Singapore as a sponsor and take advantage of the opportunities the event presents you in reaching this new and exciting market.

Organisers: The conference is organised by The McCloskey Group in association with Point Carbon - both leaders in their respective fields, concentrating years of experience and market knowledge in organising intelligent events. They have put together an unrivalled insight on carbon issues faced in today’s carbon constrained world.

Venue: Singapore is one of the largest trading capitals in the world as well as a regional leader; as such it is already a centre for carbon investment. Therefore, it is the ideal venue for those planning to stay in the carbon market on the long term perspective and whether a user, supplier or associated plant manufacturer, this is a must attend event that will provide you with immense value in terms of networking and commercial exposure opportunities.

Event: The conference will tackle challenges that the region faces addressing Kyoto protocol and its objectives and will concentrate on the financial aspects, looking at carbon as a commodity with future prospects. The event features a strong, expert led programme, with an extremely impressive line up of speakers and range of topics:

Carbon possibilities - global situation and Asia’s carbon outlook Environmental issues - Kyoto in practice; Models of market development - EU ETS, AP6, North America, Asian - overall view and role of China; Carbon realities - practice, technology and trading; Technology and energy efficiency management; JIs and CDM - getting the most out of international mechanisms; Future perspectives debates - “What needs to be done?”.

Attendees: Those attending will be regional banks, energy and power companies, large industrials, Governmental bodies and independent consultants. Along with major coal industry players, we are planning to see many delegates from the financial community and foundations.

A Cocktail reception will take place from 18:00 - 20:00 on Tuesday the 2nd of October. Come and join other delegates to unwind and network.

According to a survey by Euro-Handelsinstitut (EHI), the German retail research institute, growth is currently of greater importance to German retail companies than profitability: it is said that 74 per cent of companies questioned said that turnover growth was of increasing importance, compared with 30 per cent stating margin improvement.

Growth is to come primarily from outside Germany, with three-quarters of retail companies focusing on an aggressive internationalisation strategy, particularly in Bulgaria, Romania, Russia and Ukraine. Property portfolios in these countries are said to be seeing expansion, whereas those on the German market are being sold. Few jobs cuts are expected, however. Procurement is the main focus on the cost side, and timely delivery and an expansion of companies’ own brands are being boosted by acquisitions in Asia.
