The Spanish energy industry, and the next edition of PowerExpo, in September 2006, along with it, will no doubt be positively influenced by some very recent changes in the Spanish laws. They include the adptation to Spanish law of the EU Directives on cogeneration and biofuels and the announced revision of the Renewable Energy Promotion Plan, with higher targets for all the renewable technologies. They also include the new regulations for the electricity sector based on de conclusions of the soon-to-be-published White paperCointinual technical advances are also being made in practically all electric power generation systems. Among the highlights are high-temperature or thermoelectric solar energy and biofuel applications: Biofuel is not only being employed in vehicles but also in power generation while “special” applications of high-efficiency CHP today include slurry treatment, sludge drying, district heating and desalination. Constant advances in wind power can also being made, as bigger and more efficient machines, and better design and management tools are regularly brought to the market. PoweExpo, as a showcase of the state-of-the-art in sustainable and efficient energy systems, has contributed strongly to the promotion of these energy types.
As the title of this Editorial suggests, PowerExpo 2006 will be coming at just the right time for the sector. Recent legal and technological developments are creating very favourable prospects for the energy business and power projects. The coming PowerExpo, in September 2006, will be prepared to provide a stimulating environment for this booming sector.
